SHERWOOD, AR (June 20, 2025) — The Sherwood Police Department wishes to remind all residents and visitors of the enforcement of Ordinance No. 1592, which has been in effect since January 2, 2003. This ordinance strictly prohibits the sale and discharge of fireworks within the city limits.
Historically, the Sherwood Police Department has enforced this ordinance by issuing warnings to those found in violation. However, in an effort to ensure the safety and peace of our community, this Independence Day holiday will see a stricter enforcement approach. Additional officers will be patrolling, and any violations of the fireworks ordinance will be met with written citations.
Summary of Ordinance No. 1592:
• Prohibition of Sales: It is illegal for any entity or individual to sell fireworks or similar devices within Sherwood city limits.
• Prohibition of Discharging Fireworks: It is unlawful for any person or entity to discharge fireworks within the city.
• Permission for Displays: Bona fide groups or organizations may request permission for fireworks displays on the Fourth of July or other events. This does not extend to individual citizens.
• Fines: Violations of this ordinance can result in fines ranging from $100 to $1,000.
